Repiping Services FAQ

  • What are Repiping Services and When Do I Need Them?

What are Repiping Services and When Do I Need Them?

Your home’s plumbing system works hard every day, but even the best pipes won’t last forever. Repiping refreshes your water supply lines to fix ongoing issues and prevent future headaches. The trick is knowing when it’s time to make the investment.

Watch for these red flags around your San Diego home:

    Leaks Keep Popping Up

Nobody wants to play whack-a-mole with pipe leaks. When you’re patching new leaks every few months, it usually means your pipes are wearing out. Repiping stops the cycle for good.

    Brown or Rusty Water

That discolored water from your taps? It’s probably rust from corroding pipes. Beyond looking gross, it’s a warning that your pipes are breaking down from the inside out.

    Pressure Problems

Turning on multiple faucets shouldn’t feel like a garden hose with a kink in it. When water pressure drops throughout the house, corroded pipes are often the culprit. New pipes get your water flowing right again.

    Old Age

Those original pipes from the 60s or 70s? They’ve served well but they’re living on borrowed time. Galvanized steel pipes typically need replacement after 40-60 years of service.

    Visible Pipe Damage

Flaking, dimpling, or stains on exposed pipes spell trouble. If you can see corrosion on the outside, imagine what’s happening inside where you can’t see.

    Strange Sounds

Banging, whistling, or rattling when water runs usually means something’s not right. Proper repiping quiets those noisy pipes down.

At Mauzy, we’ll give your plumbing a thorough check and tell you straight repair or replace. No sales pressure, just honest advice from decades of hands-on experience.

  • What to Expect When Repiping Your Home

What to Expect When Repiping Your Home

Getting your home repiped is a big job, but at Mauzy, we’ve refined our process over three generations to make it as hassle-free as possible. Let’s walk through what happens when we tackle your repiping project.

    First Steps

We start with a walk-through of your home, checking out your current plumbing setup and mapping out the work needed. You’ll get a clear picture of the timeline and which parts of your house we’ll need to access.

    Protecting Your Space

Your home matters to us. We lay down thick drop cloths and put up barriers to keep dust contained and your belongings protected while we work.

    The Work Process

Most jobs take between 3-5 days, though this varies by house size. Here’s how we do it:

    • Run new pipes while keeping old ones working
    • Hook up each fixture and water line
    • Test everything thoroughly
    • Take out old pipes where we can reach them
    • Fix up any walls we opened

    Water During the Project

We’ll need to turn off your water while working, but we make sure you have service back on before we leave each day. No cold showers in the morning!

    Wrapping Up

Before we call it done, we:

    • Check every pipe’s pressure
    • Clean the new lines
    • Look over all connections
    • Tidy up completely
    • Show you what we did

We’ve spent 50 years perfecting this process, making sure your home gets the quality plumbing it needs with minimal fuss.

  • Is Trenchless Repiping an Option for My Home?

Is Trenchless Repiping an Option for My Home?

For San Diego homeowners looking to minimize property disruption during pipe replacement, trenchless technology has become a game-changing solution. While not suitable for every situation, this modern approach can save your landscaping and reduce repair time when conditions are right.

    When Trenchless Makes Sense

This method works particularly well for:

    • Replacing main water lines from street to house
    • Fixing buried supply pipes in your yard
    • Installing new underground water service
    • Yards with established gardens or trees
    • Hard-to-reach areas between buildings

    Understanding the Limits

But trenchless isn’t always the answer. Skip it when dealing with:

    • Indoor plumbing replacement
    • Pipes that have totally collapsed
    • Systems needing a new layout
    • Certain older pipe materials

    Making the Right Choice

Before recommending trenchless methods, we look at:

    • How bad your current pipes are
    • What’s buried in your yard
    • Where we can access the lines
    • The full scope of what needs fixing
    • Whether it’ll save you money long-term

At Mauzy, we’ll walk through your property, check out the pipes, and give you straight talk about whether trenchless methods make sense. No fancy sales pitch just honest advice based on what we find.

  • Will I Have to Leave My Home During Repiping?

Will I Have to Leave My Home During Repiping?

One of the most common concerns homeowners have about repiping is whether they’ll need to pack up and stay elsewhere. Good news most families can stay put during the project. At Mauzy, we’ve refined our process over decades to keep disruption to a minimum.

    Living at Home During Repiping

    Here’s what to expect:

    • Water gets turned back on at day’s end
    • Most bathrooms stay usable
    • Work zones are sealed off from living spaces
    • Daily cleanup keeps your home livable
    • We coordinate around your schedule

    Water Service Breaks

    You’ll see some interruptions:

    • Short water shutoffs while we work
    • Limited room access in work areas
    • Construction noise in daytime hours
    • Quick power cuts for any electrical work

    When Temporary Moves Make Sense

A few cases might need other arrangements:

    • Health issues requiring constant water
    • Home offices needing full utilities
    • Tiny houses getting full repipes
    • Old pipe materials needing special removal

We’ll walk through everything up front so you know what to expect. No surprises just straight talk about timing and impact on your daily routine. Most families find they can stick to normal schedules with just minor adjustments during work hours.

    Life Expectancy of Different Materials

    Copper Piping

Most copper installations last well beyond half a century. We’ve seen many copper systems in San Diego homes still performing flawlessly after 70 years. Its natural resistance to corrosion makes it especially suited for our local water conditions.

    PEX Systems

These newer materials typically provide 40-50 years of reliable service. PEX has gained popularity because it handles temperature changes better than metal pipes and never corrodes. Many manufacturers back their PEX products with extensive warranties.

    What Affects Pipe Lifespan?

Your new plumbing’s durability depends on several key factors:

    • San Diego’s water chemistry
    • Installation quality
    • System maintenance
    • Household water pressure
    • Usage patterns

Getting the Most Years from Your New Pipes

Keep your new plumbing system running strong by:

    • Watching for pressure changes
    • Fixing minor leaks quickly
    • Getting occasional checkups
    • Using water softeners when needed
    • Setting reasonable water heater temps

At Mauzy, we’ve seen firsthand how quality materials and proper installation lead to decades of trouble-free service. We focus on doing the job right so your new pipes can serve your family for years to come.

  • Does Repiping Help with Water Quality Issues?

Does Repiping Help with Water Quality Issues?

If you’ve noticed changes in your water’s appearance or taste, your home’s aging pipes might be the culprit. Mauzy plumbing installed a tankless water heater for me in February and they did a superb job. The technician from Mauzy who installed my tankless water heater was Franky. He represents Mauzy Cooling, Heating, Plumbing in the best possible way and is someone you’d want working on your home!

Kylin was very professional in attacking our heating and air conditioning units. In fact he won the battle. Very pleased with how he presented himself and his report. MCC

Corey Buck checked out our HVAC system today and was quick, thorough and efficient. He was also very courteous and amiable. We appreciate he was on time arriving just after 8 am with a 8-10 am window. Thank you.

A water heater breaking & unique older home piping/water pressure situation made what should have been a routine water heater replacement a bit more complex, and Ron, Ryan & Kacey were great in helping us get this quoted and serviced in the same day. I appreciate how communicative Ron was and how flexible Ryan was with our crazy schedules!
